PROJECT OBJECTIVE

This project focuses on identifying, developing, and demonstrating technology packages that overcome market barriers to homes that provide cost-effective, optimized thermal comfort and eventually rely on renewable energy systems such as photovoltaics in this multiyear project. High-performance homes face unique space conditioning challenges that are not adequately addressed by current heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning design practices and equipment offerings, including (1) year-round temperature and humidity control, and (2) air distribution and temperature uniformity throughout the home.

PROJECT IMPACT

This project will enable production homebuilders to confidently construct market-ready homes at higher efficiency levels, including integrated renewable energy systems. It will also empower manufacturers to design better products to meet production builder needs. This project will help utility providers to better understand the risks and opportunities new technology can provide and confidently incentivize efficiency and renewable measures. Homeowners will also be able to identify cost-effective technology packages to help meet individual cost-saving and sustainability goals.
