AMO will host an Industry Day workshop to explain the concept, vision, and technology needs associated with support for a Clean Energy Manufacturing Innovation Institute on Smart Manufacturing. The workshop will take place on Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at the Georgia Tech Global Learning Center, Atlanta, GA.

AMO Industry Day will provide a valuable opportunity for potential proposers to hear presentations from government officials about the framework for a potential Institute, specific technical topic areas of interest, and anticipated proposal requirements. Participants will have an opportunity to ask questions about the Institute and the FOA, and be able to have networking discussions with other potential collaborators. Questions and answers will be posted as an Amendment to the FOA Document list.

Smart Manufacturing represents an emerging broad opportunity for the U.S. manufacturing sector. Also called Advanced Sensing, Control and Platforms for Manufacturing, it is a network data-driven process that combines innovative automation and advanced sensing and control. Smart Manufacturing can integrate manufacturing intelligence in real-time across an entire production operation, while minimizing energy, material use and costs. Smart Manufacturing was recently identified by private sector and university leaders in the White House's Advanced Manufacturing Partnership 2.0 report as one of the highest priority manufacturing technology areas in need of federal investment.

On December 11, 2014, DOE posted a Notice of Intent (NOI), "Clean Energy Manufacturing Innovation Institute on Smart Manufacturing: Advanced Sensors, Controls, Platforms and Modeling for Manufacturing" about the anticipated Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA).

Industry Day participation is voluntary and for information purposes only. Attendance is not a prerequisite for submitting a proposal.
