Announcement from Argonne National Laboratory

Argonne National Laboratory has opened a new innovation incubator called Chain Reaction Innovations (CRI), which wants to ensure that innovators who are pursuing transformational technologies thrive by giving them an unparalleled level of support that will bridge the chasm between the creation of an idea and its readiness for the marketplace.

Most energy- and science-based technology ideas wither and die in this void, unable to secure the financial, technical, and business support required to endure the long development and initial prototype phases. CRI provides this support system for the best and brightest innovators.

CRI will provide up to $4.25 million in funds to energy and physical science startups, and it has opened the call for its first startup cohort. Participants benefit in the following ways for two years:

  • Access to Argonne to office space, cutting-edge R&D equipment, and guidance in the use of equipment.
  • Potential collaboration partners among the 1,600 engineers and scientists working in a multitude of disciplines at Argonne.
  • A fellowship that covers salary and benefits.
  • A connection to a partner mentor organization that offers assistance in developing business strategies, conducting market research, and finding long-term financing and potential commercial partners.
