Summary

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) prepared an EIS that assesses the potential environmental impacts in the states of Arkansas, Mississippi, and Louisiana, of a proposal 1) to expand an existing liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminal in Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana, by constructing and operating natural gas liquefaction and exportation capabilities; and 2) to construct, install, and operate new natural gas pipeline facilities; modify certain existing pipeline facilities; and abandon one compressor unit.

DOE was a cooperating agency in preparing the EIS and has adopted the EIS. DOE, Office of Fossil Energy, has an obligation under Section 3 of the Natural Gas Act to authorize the import and export of natural gas, including LNG, unless it finds that the import or export is not consistent with the public interest.
