The Low-Level Waste Disposal Facility Federal Review Group (LFRG) is an independent group sponsored by the Office of Environmental Management that ensures, through review, that Department of Energy (DOE), including the National Nuclear Security Administration, low-level radioactive waste disposal facilities and tank closure at DOE sites are protective of the public and environment. The LFRG supports DOE implementation of its regulatory responsibilities under the Atomic Energy Act of 1954 (AEA), as amended, DOE Order 435.1, Radioactive Waste Management, DOE Manual 435.1-1, Radioactive Waste Management Manual, and DOE-STD-5002-2017, DOE Standard for Disposal Authorization Statement and Tank Closure Documentation.
