The U.S. Department of Energy collaborated with industry, environmental organizations, academic institutions, and national laboratories from 2013 to 2015 to develop a renewed Wind Vision, documenting the contributions of wind to date (Chapter 2) and envisioning a future where wind supplies 10% of the nation’s electrical demand by 2020, 20% by 2030, and 35% by 2050. Chapter 3 of the Wind Vision report quantifies the economic, environmental, and social benefits of a robust wind energy future, and Chapter 4 and Appendix M provide a Roadmap of actions that wind stakeholders can take to make it a reality. As the roadmap was intended to be updated periodically, feedback was elicited from wind researchers and other stakeholders throughout 2016–2017, culminating in an updated roadmap of detailed actions published in 2018.
