The U.S. Department of Energy SunShot Initiative is pleased to release the funding opportunity announcement (FOA) entitled SunShot Technology to Market “SunShot Incubator 10, SolarMat 3, SUNPATH 2.”
This funding program will enable the widespread market penetration of highly impactful solar energy technologies and solutions through technology research, development, and demonstration to overcome technical, institutional and market challenges.
Achieving SunShot price goals will lead to increases in domestic deployment, but for solar to become ubiquitous, additional advancements are needed
Historically, annual funding opportunities have been separated by stage of technology development (Incubator, SolarMaT, and SUNPATH). In the interest of optimizing the application and selection process, these funding opportunities have been combined into a single funding opportunity, with the goal of bringing disruptive innovation to the solar industry in the near term that will take root in the U.S.
The path of product development. The tiers of this funding program are meant to take a product from proof of concept to pilot manufacture (if applicable, hardware) or product launch (if applicable, soft cost solutions).
This funding opportunity has six tiers based on the type of product (hardware or non-hardware) and product maturity. Projects are expected to be funded with a maximum award level of $500,000 to $10 million, depending on the project tier. The total federal funding will be approximately $45 million with a 20% to 50% awardee cost share required, also depending on the project tier.
Prior to submitting a full application for this opportunity, a brief, mandatory concept paper is due on March 3, 2015. See all application dates below.
