Description
The Photovoltaics Research and Development 2: Modules and Systems (PVRD2) funding programaims to advance photovoltaic (PV) technology towards and beyond the 2020 SunShot goals. Specifically, it aims to develop technologies that have the potential to produce new classes of commercial PV products that improve module performance, reliability, and manufacturability. PVRD2 builds on progress made in the first round of the funding program.
PVRD2 has three distinct topics addressing the solar energy costs that can be addressed by photovoltaic research and development.
- Topic Area 1 will grant small exploratory projects that will determine the potential of an innovative idea in all aspects of photovoltaic systems and lay the groundwork for further development.
- Topic Area 2 will lead to significant improvements in the performance, energy yield, manufacturability, and reliability of completed PV modules as well as develop advanced methods for module characterization and analysis.
- Topic Area 3 will focus both on hardware and software solutions to facilitate the rapid, safe, and cost-effective deployment and commissioning of PV systems.
Awards are expected to be made for 25-30 projects for a total of $25 million. The deadline to submit a letter of intent is December 1, 2016; full applications are due March 3, 2017. See the table below for a list of all deadlines relating to this funding opportunity announcement.
