PROJECT OBJECTIVE

PNNL has developed the Building Re-tuning Training (BRT) curriculum for building operations staff. Building Re–tuning training is a program that educates building operators, facility engineers, and the service personnel in commercial buildings in finding and fixing energy-wasting practices. PNNL and Penn State are helping industry organizations such as BOMA and APPA use the curriculum to offer the training to their members.

PROJECT IMPACT

Based on the study of more than 100 buildings, buildings that are re-tuned can typically find opportunities to reduce energy use by 15%, saving an average of $0.15 per square foot. More than 20 organizations have had building operators trained in Building Re-Tuning to date, and national partners developing training programs based on BRT will greatly increase the number of building operators who can use these practices to maintain the energy performance of their buildings.
