Inspection of the Hanford Site Chronic Beryllium Disease Prevention Program

This report provides the results of an independent inspection of the Hanford Site Chronic Beryllium Disease Prevention Program that was conducted by the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Office of Health, Safety and Security (HSS) in response to concerns raised by external stakeholders regarding the adequacy of the program's implementation at the site.  The inspection was conducted at the request of the Assistant Secretary for Environmental Management in March and April 2010.  The  inspection evaluated the existing site-wide program covering four site operating contractors – CH2M Hill Plateau Remediation Company, Mission Support Alliance, Washington Closure Hanford, and Washington River Protection Solutions, and the site medical contractor, AdvanceMed Hanford.  The inspection team evaluated the current practices for protecting workers against beryllium hazards at the Hanford Site and administering the beryllium medical surveillance program.
