As part of a "Vintage DOE" blog series we've been sorting through the Department of Energy content archives and found this relevant piece. It features star students from a competitive internship program describing their jobs at DOE.

Right now, a critical mission of the federal government is to overhaul our hiring procedures to make the procedures swifter and ensure the federal government is bringing on the best and the brightest minds to help move our country forward.

My favorite comment in the video is by Jose Quezada of San Francisco, CA:

"It's almost like being a musician or an artist because you have to be creative and they tell you to do things, to test things, but you're pretty much the first person to test them, so you have to be creative and you have to think of how am I going to do this? And whatever you learned in school, whatever knowledge, you put that away and go to work and build something."
