Robert Bectel

Robert Bectel, Senior Program Analyst, Data Management and Digital Communications

Robert currently serves as a commercialization executive for the Office of Technology Transitions (OTT), where he helps accelerate the commercialization of energy solutions. Prior to joining OTT, Rob served four years as the Chief Technology Officer for the Office of Energy Efficiency at the Department of Energy. He seeks to establish strong enterprise IT solutions that establish efficient, agile, and robust information infrastructures. To do this, he brings a unique passion, focus and expertise on using cutting-edge technologies to know what enterprise projects to undertake; why to undertake them and when to best do them. He works to develop low cost and easily accessible distributable content, information architectures, robust software and interactive solutions – all with the goal of helping transform and expedite market acceptance, transparency and efficiency.

Prior to his transition to government, Rob's 20 years of experience included both the public and private sectors. He managed his own company, where he focused on the development of health informatics solutions. He also built and managed the first online business network for pharmacists, at the National Community Pharmacists Association, and led its Committee on Innovation and Technology.

Prior to NCPA, Rob directed the development of a USDA consumer website and was the marketing director for ChainDrugStore.net. As the portal manager for the TruSecure Corporation, he performed interactive outreach activities to customers and the public on matters of information and cyber security. He has co-authored several publications and textbooks on long-term care systems in the United States and Europe.

He is a graduate of Michigan State University.
