NIPSCO is now offering a feed-in tariff program for customers who generate electricity from solar, wind, biomass, or new hydroelectric facilities. All NIPSCO electric customers in good standing are eligible for the program. Facilities must be between 5 kilowatts (kW) and 5 megawatts (MW), must be insured, and must meet interconnection standards. Hydroelectric facilities are limited to 1 MW, and only new hydrofacilities are eligible. Payments are made to the customer on a monthly basis. Applications are available on the web site, as well as engineering standards and tariff information.
The total capacity available under the feed-in tariff is limited to 30 MW. No single technology can exceed 15 MW. 700 kW is allocated for solar projects of less than 10 kW capacity, and 300 kW is allocated for wind projects of less than 10 kW in capacity. One customer (including its affiliates) may not exceed more than 5 MW. A customer may elect to use up to 1 MW of its production for on-site use.
