The Maryland Energy Administration is now offering rebates for energy efficiency improvements in owner-occupied, single family residences in Maryland through the Home Performance with Energy Star Program. In order to participate in the program, residents must first have a comprehensive home energy audit performed by a program-approved auditor. The cost of any energy audit varies by contractor, but an energy audit incentive of $100 is available for residents that pursue the recommended improvements. Based on the results of the audit, the homeowner will arrange for energy efficiency improvements to be made using a program-approved contractor. Upon completion of the work, rebates of 35% of the improvement cost up to $1,500 per measure are available for the following improvements:
* Whole-House Air Sealing
* Attic Insulation
* Duct Sealing or Replacement or Insulation
* Wall Insulation
* Insulation (Crawl Space or Basement)
* Insulation (Rim Joist)
In order to qualify for a rebate, the total cost of improvements must be at least $1,000 including the cost of the energy audit. The total incentive is limited to $3,100 per customer. Improvements made prior to January 1, 2011 are not eligible for incentives under this program. Residents remain eligible for additional utility incentives which may be available for some energy efficiency improvements, and may also pursue financing for the remaining balance of costs through the Maryland Home Energy Loan Program.
