The Community Foundation
Grants to Green is a collaborative grant program of The Community Foundation, and Southface Enterprise Institute. The program offers grants to nonprofits for energy efficiency upgrades to existing buildings or for buildings that are built more efficiently than required by the building code. In order to qualify for a grant, the nonprofit must first have an Energy and Water Use Audit or a Green Building Design Review (in the case of a new building). The Community Foundation will provide an audit (Assessment Award) at no cost. Specifically, facility renovations or expansions may receive funding for:
* Labor costs associated with the implementation of improvements recommended by the audit
* HVAC system upgrades to more efficient units
* Water efficient fixture replacements
* Lighting upgrades
* Building shell improvements
New construction projects can use funding for the difference in cost between code-compliant building systems and energy efficient systems, including:
* HVAC equipment with higher Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) or Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER) ratings
* Higher efficiency lighting
* Water-saving technologies
* Products (flooring, cabinets) that contain local, recycled, and/or rapidly renewable materials
Among other requirements, the nonprofit must be classified as a 501(c)(3) organization with the Internal Revenue Service and be in good standing with the Georgia Secretary of State's Office as a nonprofit. The organization and building must be located within the Atlanta metropolitan area, organization must have at least one full-time employee, and must be in operation as a nonprofit for at least 2 years before applying for the grant. Nonprofits operated by religious organzations are ineligible for grant funding. Nonprofits must provide matching funds (cash or in-kind). Amount of required match is dependent on the organization's budget and grant size.
