Solar/Wind Access Policy

Sacramento City Code, Title 16, Section 16.48.110 ensures that the Director of Parks and Community Services gives consideration to solar access, to the extent feasible, when selecting and planting residential street trees near residential buildings.

Sacramento City Code, Title 17, Section 17.220.010 contains a provision requiring the planning commission or zoning administrator to consider energy conservation issues, including adequate orientation for maximum solar access. Furthermore, Section 17.60.040, which contains the zoning code’s height regulations, contains an exception for solar energy systems on top of buildings. The exception allows solar systems to be of a greater height than the limit established for the zone.
