OAK RIDGE, Tenn. – The U.S. Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge Office of Environmental Management (OREM) has named Wendy Cain as its new portfolio federal project director for cleanup of the East Tennessee Technology Park (ETTP).

As the portfolio federal project director, Ms. Cain oversees all of the cleanup, demolition, waste disposal, and land transfers at the site. At the forefront, Cain is directing the removal of the K-31 and K-27 buildings, which are the final uranium enrichment facilities at ETTP. In this position, she will oversee the site’s cleanup completion estimated for 2022 and the area’s transfer to private industry.

“Wendy was selected based on her proven track record and experience with some of our largest and most complex cleanup projects,” said Sue Cange, the acting manager of the Oak Ridge Office of EM. “We look forward to continuing our outstanding progress at ETTP through her leadership.”

Ms. Cain’s federal career began in 1994 when she was selected for DOE’s Technical Leadership Development Program managed through DOE Headquarters. After completing the program that included several details around the DOE Complex, she was permanently assigned to Oak Ridge 1998.  Since then, she has managed a variety of projects in support of EM’s mission at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory and ETTP. Most recently, she served as the deputy federal project director for the K-25 Building Demolition Project. 

Ms. Cain received her Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from West Virginia University and a Master of Science in Industrial Engineering with a specialization in Engineering Management from the University of Tennessee.  She is involved in several volunteer activities including: leadership positions within Lions Clubs International at the Oak Ridge, Tennessee, and North American levels; East Tennessee Lions Eye Bank Board of Directors; Tennessee Center for Performance Excellence Board of Examiners; and Toastmasters International.

Ms. Cain resides in Knoxville with her husband Barry.
