DOE Seeking Information on Transmission Line Permitting

The Department of Energy’s Office of Electricity Delivery and Energy Reliability is seeking information on the questions related to permitting of transmission lines. Infrastructure projects — such as high voltage, long distance, electric transmission facilities — often involve multiple Federal, State, local, and Tribal authorizations and are subject to a wide array of processes and procedural requirements in order to obtain all necessary permits and other authorizations.

2010 Smart Grid System Report Available (February 2012)

The Department of Energy has submitted the 2010 Smart Grid System Report in response to Section 1302 of Title XIII of the Energy Independence and Security Act (EISA), which directs the Secretary of Energy to report to Congress concerning the status of smart grid deployments nationwide and any regulatory or government barriers to continued deployment. This is the second installment of this report to Congress.

Electricity Advisory Committee Meeting March 5-6, 2012

The next meeting of the Department of Energy's Electricity Advisory Committee will be held on Monday and Tuesday, March 5 and 6, 2012 at the Ronald Reagan Building, 1300 Pennsylvania Ave. NW, Washington, DC. A draft agenda is available; the final agenda and additional materials from will be posted after the meeting.

Bulk Energy Storage Webinar Rescheduled for February 9, 2012

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and the Iowa Stored Energy Park (ISEP) are conducting a free, 1-hour webinar, Lessons from Iowa: The Economic, Market, and Organizational Issues in Making Bulk Energy Storage Work, on Thursday, February 9, 2012 at 1 p.m. ET. Presenters include Dr. Imre Gyuk of DOE’s Office of Electricity Deliverability and Energy Reliability and Bob Schulte from ISEP.

The webinar was original scheduled for January 20, 2012, but experienced technical difficulties due to the large number of participants and was rescheduled. All participants must reregister.

The Infrastructure Security and Energy Restoration (ISER) Division of the Office of Electricity Delivery and Energy Reliability (OE) is publishing a new newsletter, the Energy Emergency Preparedness Quarterly, designed to briefly highlight a few of the OE/ISER energy preparedness activities that occur each quarter.

The workshop brought together some of the Nation’s leading researchers and experts to identify computational challenges associated with the operation and planning of the electric power system.

OE Grant Recipients, ISER Recognized for Innovation and Leadership

As part of its annual awards ceremony, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) recently honored three individuals working on projects funded by the Office of Electricity & Energy Reliability for their leadership and contributions to engineering. Additionally, an education industry publication recognized the Emergency Support Function #12 (ESF #12) team within OE’s Infrastructure Security & Energy Restoration (ISER) Division with an annual Learning in Practice award for excellence in e-learning.
