Comments on RFI on Permitting of Transmission Lines Available

The Department of Energy’s Office of Electricity Delivery and Energy Reliability released a Federal Register Notice seeking information on questions related to permitting of transmission lines. The Request for Information focused on making the development times for generation and transmission more commensurate with one another. Public comments received are now available for review and downloading.

April 2012 ARRA Energy Assurance Planning Bulletin Available

The Department released the April 2012 issue of the ARRA Energy Assurance Planning Bulletin (EAPB). The ARRA EAPB is issued quarterly to provide information on energy assurance planning resources, upcoming events, training opportunities, and important grant deliverable dates. This is the tenth issue of the EAP Bulletin; previous issues are available for download.

April 2012 PSERC Webinars: Issues in Designing the Future Grid

The Department has funded an effort at the Power Systems Engineering Research Center (PSERC) to investigate the requirements of an electric grid with high penetrations of sustainable energy systems and heavy reliance on cyber systems for sensing and communication. The goal of the effort is to stimulate discussion among the academic, industry, and government communities on what it will take to shape the future grid for the mid-21st Century.

DOE Seeking Information on Transmission Line Permitting

The Department of Energy’s Office of Electricity Delivery and Energy Reliability is seeking information on the questions related to permitting of transmission lines. Infrastructure projects — such as high voltage, long distance, electric transmission facilities — often involve multiple Federal, State, local, and Tribal authorizations and are subject to a wide array of processes and procedural requirements in order to obtain all necessary permits and other authorizations.

2010 Smart Grid System Report Available (February 2012)

The Department of Energy has submitted the 2010 Smart Grid System Report in response to Section 1302 of Title XIII of the Energy Independence and Security Act (EISA), which directs the Secretary of Energy to report to Congress concerning the status of smart grid deployments nationwide and any regulatory or government barriers to continued deployment. This is the second installment of this report to Congress.
