On behalf of the Office of Electricity Delivery and Energy Reliability, DOE’s National Energy Technology Laboratory issued today a Notice of Intent (NOI) to issue a Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) entitled “Sensor and Modeling Approaches for Enhanced Observability and Controllability of Power Systems with Distributed Energy Resources.” The Notice of Intent includes a request for potential applicants to provide feedback to a series of questions intended to refine the specific functional and technology applications within each of the anticipated FOA’s Topic Areas, along with their associated performance targets. The deadline for submitting responses to the NOI is August 10, 2016.

It is anticipated that the FOA will be released in September 2016 and will solicit applications in two topic areas – Low Cost, Low Maintenance Sensors, and Advanced Modeling, Data Analytic and Computational Approaches – to support realization of the full potential benefits of distributed energy resources (DER) in a grid system with high DER penetration levels.
