The Department has funded an effort at the Power Systems Engineering Research Center (PSERC) to investigate the requirements of an electric grid with high penetrations of sustainable energy systems and heavy reliance on cyber systems for sensing and communication. The goal of the effort is to stimulate discussion among the academic, industry, and government communities on what it will take to shape the future grid for the mid-21st Century.
PSERC is offering a free, public webinar series that began in January and runs through May 2012 entitled “Issues in Designing the Future Grid.” The webinars will focus on the information hierarchy for the future grid and grid enablers of sustainable energy systems.
April's webinars topics are:
- Networked Information Gathering and Fusion of PMU Measurements by Junshan Zhang, Professor, School of Electrical, Computer, and Energy Engineering at Arizona State University (April 3, 2012)
- Distributed and Centralized Generation by James Momoh, Professor, Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering at Howard University (April 17, 2012)
