Summary

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) prepared an EIS that assesses the potential environmental impacts of a proposal to construct and operate 1) liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities to treat, liquefy, store, and load (LNG) onto LNG carriers, barges, and trucks for domestic distribution and export in Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana; and 2) to reconfigure existing natural gas pipeline facilities in Acadia, Evangeline, and Calcasieu Parishes, Louisiana to deliver natural gas to the terminal site.

DOE was a cooperating agency in preparing the EIS and has adopted the EIS. DOE, Office of Fossil Energy, has an obligation under Section 3 of the Natural Gas Act to authorize the import and export of natural gas, including LNG, unless it finds that the import or export is not consistent with the public interest.
