Proposed Construction, Operation, Decontamination/Decommissioning of Depleted Uranium Hexafluoride Conversion Facilities

In 2001, DOE announced its intent to prepare an EIS to analyze the potential environmental impacts of a proposal to construct, operate, maintain, and decontaminate and decommission two depleted uranium hexafluoride (DUF6) conversion facilities at Paducah, Kentucky, and Portsmouth, Ohio.

In 2003, DOE announced a change in its NEPA approach: instead of preparing a single EIS for both DUF6 facilities, the Department would instead prepare one EIS for the Paducah facility (DOE/EIS-0359) and one EIS for the Portsmouth facility (DOE/EIS-0360).
