Depleted Uranium Hexafluoride Conversion Facilities
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is providing advance notice of its intent to prepare an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) on the proposed construction, operation, and decontamination/decommissioning of two depleted uranium hexafluoride (DUF6) conversion facilities, at Portsmouth, Ohio and Paducah, Kentucky. DOE intends to use the proposed facilities to convert its inventory of DUF6 to a more stable chemical form suitable for storage, beneficial use or disposal.
