Waste Isolation Pilot Plant Disposal Phase

The Department of Energy (DOE), pursuant to its implementing regulations under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), 10 CFR 1021.315, is revising its Record of Decision for the Department of Energy’s Waste Isolation Pilot Plant Disposal Phase (WIPP ROD), 63 FR 3624 (Jan. 23, 1998). DOE has decided to dispose of up to 2,500 cubic meters of transuranic (TRU) waste containing polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in concentrations of 50 parts per million (ppm) or greater at the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) near Carlsbad, New Mexico.
