The U.S. Department of Energy is proposing to provide federal funding to the National Center for Defense Manufacturing and Machining (NCDMM) to develop the Agile Electro-Mechanical Product Accelerator (AEMPA). The proposed project would focus on three manufacturing areas: metal processing, wrought and finished components; additive manufacturing processes; and energy consumption during material manufacturing processes. DOE funding would be used to identify, analyze and document methods and tools used in the industry; mature and adapt quantitative and qualitative tools in order to make manufaturing decisions; perform site and facility assessments using identified tools; and execute projects introducing and implementing advanced technologies to reduce life cycle cost and environmental impact.
