Sludge simulant is needed for rotary microfliter (RMF) testing. The Pretreatment Engineering Platform (PEP) sludge simulant is a blend of the following five major components: Iron-rich sludge simulant, specific supernate simulant, aluminum hydroxide solids, aluminum oxyhydroxide solids, and sodium oxalate solids. The specific supernate simulant has the following components: Sodium oxalate, aluminum nitrate, sodium phosphate, sodium sulfate, sodium nitrate, sodium hydroxide, sodium nitrite, and sodium carbonate. The Iron-rich sludge simulant has the following components: Solid hydroxides of iron, calcium, cerium, lanthanum, neodymium, nickel, strontium, and zirconium; and manganese dioxide solids in a supernate matrix comprising sodium oxalate, sodium phosphate, sodium nitrate, sodium hydroxide, and sodium carbonate. The objective of this work is to prepare approximately 8.5 liters PEP sludge simulant.
