Funding will support laboratory and bench scale research and development on a novel lead flow battery design which eliminates the need for a separator or membrane material. The proposed work is consistent with the goal of Grid-Scale Rampable Intermittently Dispachable Storage (GRIDS): development of new technologies to enable the widespread deployment of cost-effective, grid-scale energy storage. Proposed work consists entirely of research, development, and demonstration work to be completed in facilities and labs at both General Atomics and the University of California, San Diego. Both are located in San Diego, California. The work performed will be limited to in-lab design, analysis, and development.
