Savannah River Site (SRS) currently maintains over 500,000 gallons of heavy water. The SRS heavy water is stored in 55 gallons drums, and is also contained in storage tanks in K, L, and C areas. There are approximately 1900 drums stored in K-Area and 4800 drums stored in L-Area. There is approximately 59,000 gallons of heavy water in the K-Area storage tanks, 49,000 gallons in the L-Area storage tanks, and 43,000 gallons in the C-Area storage tanks. This proposed activity (PA) is to consolidate the SRS heavy water inventory into the C-Area reactor building in order to reduce the surveillance and maintenance costs associated with storage in three (3) facilities to one (1) facility, and to place the heavy water at a location where removal, once disposition is initiated, may be performed in a safe and expeditious manner.
