The State of North Carolina proposes to use Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant funds to reduce their carbon footprint by reducing trucking needs of hauling consumed products. Currently food products are trucked into the community of Orange County from corporate centers of up to 2,800 miles away. This project will utilize a local facility, the Piedmont Farm Agricultural Processing Center in Hillsborough, to aid in the replacing a portion of the trucked-in goods and therefore reducing the carbon footprint.
