United Ethanol is proposing install an anaerobic digester at the plant that will use excess organic solids from the ethanol production process (such as thin stillage) to produce methane that Will displace a large amount of natural gas use at the plant. All methane generated by the anaerobic digester will be used on site. United Ethanol, LLC will receive $2,250,000 in State Energy Program funds for equipment. There will be three digester tanks placed above ground measuring 105 feet in diameter and 48 feet in height installed within the property boundary of the facility. The anaerobic digestion system being proposed for the project is a sealed, closed loop system with all products being fed back into the ethanol facility; therefore there are not expected to be adverse effects from odor.
