The City of Chanute is proposing to use Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funding to install a ground source heat pump system that will serve the heating and cooling needs for the existing Chanute Business Development Center and Public Recreation Center at the former Chanute Senior High School complex. The ground source heat pump system will be a vertical, closed loop system with a capacity of 100 tons. There will be 60 boreholes needed covering 37,500 square feet. Drilling spills are the only expected waste from the project and will be re-used on-site when possible or taken to the appropriate landfill. Sand bags and/or compost filtration would be utilized to control erosion as well as drilling spoils. The well field site will be re-paved when the proposed project has been completed.
