The City of Wichita, Kansas proposes to use $1,598,573 of Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) funds for the construction of a 13,697 linear foot (approx. 2.5 mile) 10 foot wide bike path within the City of Wichita and will serve as a connection route between two already established city bikeways. The project area is generally in an existing residential area; however, the northern-most half-mile of the project will pass through Grove Park, a City of Wichita regional park facility. The project will run across vegetated open space and rights-of-way, primarily, with other areas requiring removal of existing 4-foot wide concrete sidewalks adjacent to roadways to be replaced with 10 foot-wide concrete bike path pavement. Primary vegetation cover in this area is turf-type grasses, including fescues and some turf-type buffalo and other warm season grasses near Grove Park. Re-vegetation will be done to match the grasses found prior to construction. All ground disturbance work will occur within existing City right-of-ways or within signed easements between the landowner and the City.
