The State of Wisconsin will provide $3,000,000 in Recovery Act funds to McCain Foods, an international food products and processing company, for the installation of a waste-to-energy plant at its existing wastewater treatment plant in Plover, WI. The funds will be used for a new covered anaerobic lagoon and for the conversion of the existing anaerobic reactors into waste digesters. The project will enable the company to recover biogas from organic wastes and to use the biogas to generate electricity and process steam. The work will be fully contained within the existing footprint of the facility. The plant already has the required operation permit and air emissions permit. No new permits are needed. The steam and electricity produced will be used on site by the plant. The project will have no impact on wetlands, floodplains, coastal zones, threatened and endangered species, or cultural resources. The project will result in less material being sent to a landfill from the plant.
