The Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity will provide $5,000,000 in Recovery Act funds to Ingersoll Rand (Rand) as part of Rand's efforts to upgrade its Rockford, Illinois facility. The funds will be used to purchase and install equipment needed to manufacture rotor hubs and carbon fiber spar caps for the wind industry. The project includes upgrading the MasterMill 6.0 gantry milling machine to enable production of 2.5 megawatt windmill rotor hubs. Equipment includes an air conditioning system for composite production, gantry, rails, and movable cranes. Minor interior upgrades to the existing building are needed to support the project, including running electrical power to the equipment locations. The footprint of the facility will not be impacted. The project will not require new operation permits or updates to existing permits.
