Tom Pauling - Director, Office of Site Operations
Tom Pauling is the Director of the LM Office of Site Operations, which oversees long-term surveillance and maintenance, as well as asset management activities for over 89 legacy sites located in 28 states. He is responsible for programmatic safety across the entire organization, as well as environmental monitoring and compliance, site maintenance, real and personal property, the Uranium Leasing Program, Uranium Mill Tailings Radiation Control Act (UMTRCA) Title X audits, National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) evaluations, grants and cooperative agreements, and contractor oversight. Prior to his current position, Mr. Pauling was the LM Environment Team Leader and an LM site manager. He holds a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri.
Mr. Pauling’s previous responsibilities with DOE were at its Weldon Spring, Missouri, Site, where he worked as an environmental engineer. He managed specific projects and environmental compliance during the site’s cleanup phase, while coordinating with regulatory agencies and providing project information to the public. His earlier work experiences include serving with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources and developing and implementing regulations, writing permits, participating in national-policy-making groups, and conducting inspections for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Region 8.
