Tom Pauling - Director, Office of Site Operations
Tom Pauling is the Director of the Office of Site Operations within the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Legacy Management (LM), which oversees long-term surveillance and maintenance, as well as asset management activities at over 89 LM sites located in 28 states. He is responsible for environmental monitoring and compliance, site maintenance, programmatic safety across the entire organization, real and personal property, Uranium Leasing Program, UMTRCA Title X audits, National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) evaluations, grants and cooperative agreements, and contractor oversight. Prior to his role as Director of Site Operations, Mr. Pauling was the Environment Team Leader and a Site Manager. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri.
Before coming to LM, Mr. Pauling worked as an environmental engineer at DOE’s Weldon Spring, Missouri, Site managing specific projects and environmental compliance elements of the successful cleanup of that site, coordinating with the regulatory agencies, and providing information to the public. His experience prior to that included working for the Missouri Department of Natural Resources and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region VIII, developing and implementing regulations, writing permits, participating in national policy making groups, and conducting inspections.
