The DOE Office of Indian Energy and the Tribal Energy Program, with support from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, are hosting an interactive workshop that will walk participants through the process for and potential pitfalls of developing commercial-scale renewable energy projects on tribal lands. Whether small or large, the goal of a commercial-scale project is to generate revenue for the Tribe, and the electricity is sold off the reservation. Examples include a solar field or a wind farm.
Who Should Attend
The workshop is specifically designed for, and limited to, elected tribal leaders, tribal executives, and tribal staff interested in gaining knowledge and confidence to embark on the path of developing renewable energy projects.
What You Will Learn
Attendees will learn how renewable energy project development can advance tribal clean energy goals and hear from other Tribes about their experiences. Using course materials and tribal case studies, technical experts will go over the five steps necessary to develop and finance commercial-scale renewable energy projects on tribal lands, including how to:
• Assess project potential
• Determine technology options
• Refine the project
• Implement financing and construction
• Plan for project operation and maintenance.
In preparation for the workshop, we ask that attendees review the "Foundational Topics" course material on the National Training & Education Resource website.
For more information on the commercial-scale workshop, see the draft agenda.
There is no cost to attend this workshop, but advance registration is required. Online registration is now closed; however, those wishing to attend may still register by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
