The DOE Office of Indian Energy hosted a second round of tribal consultations and outreach meetings throughout Alaska in February and March to gather input on the National Strategy for the Arctic Region (NSAR). The meetings gave state agencies, local governments, rural utilities, intertribal organizations, nonprofits, and industry an opportunity to provide feedback on various elements of the draft 10-Year Renewable Energy Plan for the Arctic.

The NSAR aims to accelerate renewable energy deployment in the Region. The 10-Year Plan is intended to advance NSAR and the long-term Implementation Plan released in January 2014 through key activities that:

  • Identify goals for renewable energy development
  • Identify opportunities for public-private partnerships
  • Support clean energy project deployment through federal efforts, including the START Program
  • Leverage science and innovative technologies in renewable energy.
