Glen Sweetnam is the Director for African and Middle Eastern Affairs in the Office of International Affairs at the U.S. Department of Energy.  Mr. Sweetnam is responsible for managing DOE’s bilateral and multilateral engagement with African and Middle Eastern countries.  His office is also responsible for advising DOE leadership on world oil market developments, related policy responses, and U.S. government engagement on those issues in the International Energy Agency, the International Energy Forum, and other ministerial fora.

Prior to his current position, Mr. Sweetnam was the Senior Director for Energy and Climate Change on President Obama’s National Security Staff.  From 2005 to 2010, Mr. Sweetnam was the Director of the International, Economic, and Greenhouse Gases Division of the Energy Information Administration (EIA). Prior to joining the EIA, he worked at senior levels for both energy merchants and exploration and production companies, including Reliant Energy, ARCO, and Fina Oil and Chemical Company. Glen Sweetnam received a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University and a Masters of Public Policy from University of California, Berkeley.
