Course Title and Description:A Roadmap to Success: Hiring, Retaining and Including People with Disabilities” was released by OPM in connection with the 24th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). This course offers basic information and sources that can be used to hire, promote, and retain individuals with disabilities to meet current and future staffing needs.  The Roadmap covers six sections: It starts With You; Recruit; Accommodate; Interview; Hire; and Include and Retain.

Audience: DOE hiring managers, supervisors, human resources professionals, human resources assistants, and staff involved in the recruiting/hiring, and/or those tasked with making decisions around the promotion of subordinate staff are encouraged to complete this training. DOE Federal employees at Headquarters and Field offices. 

Requirements: Supports Executive Order 13548, Increasing Federal Employment of Individuals with Disabilities that directs agencies to become a model for the employment of individuals with disabilities. E.O. 13548 includes the requirement for Federal agencies to provide training to federal human resources personnel and hiring managers on the employment of individuals with disabilities. The training also supports the DOE Strategic Plan, Strategic Objective 12; and DOE’s ability to build an inclusive workforce that draws on the talents of all segments of society

Instructions for Employee Access:

The courses are available through the OLC.  DOE Federal employees can access the OLC directly from the Employee Self Service (ESS) without a separate username and password. 

  1. Log onto ESS at  https://mis.doe.gov/ess/
  2. Under the ESS menu bar, click Training > Access Training > Online Learning Center (OLC). The Welcome to the Online Learning Center page will open. Click the Connect to OLC button at the bottom of the page.  (Note: if you haven’t logged into the OLC within the last 6 months, this feature will not work because you are required to reset your password. In this case, you must access OLC at https://olc.energy.gov.)  
  3. You will then be directed to the Online Learning Center News page; click Continue.  The course may appear in the “My Learning Assignments” pod.  To start the training, click the course title A Roadmap to Success: Hiring, Retaining and Including People with Disabilities, then click the “Start Course” link.  Note:  You can search for the course under the “Find Learning” pod.  Once you have located the course, click the title and you can either start the course or add it to your Learning Plan.
  4. Once you have completed the course, go to the ‘History’ pod and click on “View All” link to confirm completion. You may print your certificate of completion by hovering over the course title and selecting ‘Print Certificate’ from the selection menu.

NOTE:  You must complete ALL modules to receive course completion in your learning history. Click the Exit button in the top right hand side of the screen, select OK and YES to exit the lesson.
