The DOE under the Energy Star Program tested a Haier product and found it failed to satisfy the applicable energy conservation standards. Haier found that the products noncompliance was due to a malformed part, ceased distribution of the product, and began repairs (and issuing repair instructions to its product service centers). Haier accordingly agrees to attempt to contact customers who may hold the defective product, to repair affected models at no cost, to extend warranties on the product, and will contribute $150,000 to the US treasury within 30 days. DOE agrees to terminate its inquiry, in response.
