On Tuesday, Shannon discussed some efforts by Clean Cities, parents, and students to reduce the time that parents spend idling in school parking lots. Some schools have even become idle-free zones. The Alternative Fuels and Advanced Vehicles Data Center offers a few tips for reducing idling, including turning off your engine if you are parked for more than a minute, switching to a hybrid electric vehicle, and avoiding drive-thrus and walking inside instead.
