Savannah River Site Basis for Section 3116 Determination for Salt Waste Disposal

The Department of Energy (DOE) published in the Federal Register (January 24, 2006), a Notice of Availability of Section 3116 Determination for Salt Waste Disposal at the Savannah River Site.

The Secretary of Energy signed the NDAA Section 3116 basis of determination for the disposal of separated, solidified, low-activity salt waste at the Savannah River Site near Aiken, South Carolina on January 17, 2006. The determination was prepared pursuant to Section 3116 of the Ronald W. Reagan National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2005. The Final NDAA Section 3116 Waste Determination report is available below. NRC published their consultation report, called the Technical Evaluation Report which is available on the NRC web page. That report is available on the NRC electronic reading room at http://www.nrc.gov.

Basis for Section 3116 Determination for Salt Waste Disposal at the Savannah River Site - The Secretary of Energy is making this 3116 Determination pursuant to Section 3116 of the Ronald W. Reagan National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2005 (NDAA) [1]. This 3116 Determination concerns the disposal of separated, solidified low-activity radioactive salt waste at the Savannah River Site (SRS) near Aiken, South Carolina.
