Cleanup at Hanford
On the 586-square-mile Hanford Site, DOE is protecting the Columbia River by cleaning up waste sites, treating contaminated groundwater and demolishing contaminated facilities. DOE is working to reduce the active cleanup footprint to 75 square miles by 2015 and then shift its emphasis and resources to full-scale cleanup of the site’s Central Plateau located at the center of the site.
