Tom McQuiston
Doctor of Public Health
USW Tony Mazzocchi Center for Health, Safety and Environment Education

Tom McQuiston is a doctor of public health specializing in occupational health, safety and environment issues. Dr. McQuiston currently works for the Tony Mazzocchi Center for Health, Safety and Environmental Education (TMC), a joint venture of the Labor Institute, the United Steelworkers (USW) and the Communication Workers of America.

Dr. McQuiston has worked for the health and safety departments of five international unions. He received his undergraduate education in metallurgical engineering at the University of Cincinnati (UC), his master's of science degree in industrial hygiene from UC and his doctoral degree in public health from the University of North Carolina.

In over 30 years of work in occupational safety and health, he has managed programs involving eleven international unions and four universities. While at the International Chemical Workers Union and in cooperation with USW, McQuiston helped found the Center for Worker Health and Safety Education in Cincinnati, OH. McQuiston also helped found the Solidarity Research and Evaluation Project that brought rank and file union members together with union staff and professional researchers to create a model for participatory study of occupational safety and health programs and issues. He has authored or co-authored numerous articles in peer reviewed journals on health and safety hazard assessment, occupational cancer prevention, program evaluation, participatory research and industry-wide studies.
