The Office of Security Policy analyzes, develops and interprets safeguards and security policy governing national security functions and the protection of related critical assets entrusted to the Department. This includes the protection of DOE nuclear facilities, nuclear weapons components, special nuclear materials and classified information. Our broad topical areas are organized as: Program Planning and Management, Protection Program Operations (which includes both physical security and protective forces), Information Security and Material Control and Accountability.

The S&S Policy Information Resource (PIR) website provides a capability to search a collection of statutes, regulations, national policies, requirements and their relationships to DOE safeguards and security directives. Topic, subtopic, and keyword searches provide the ability to create customized searches of user selected sets of documents/information.

Safeguards and Security (S&S) Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) may help the reader better understand answers to some common/recurring questions or provide policy clarification. The questions are divided into the following topical areas-General, Program Planning and Management, Protection Program Operations, Information Security and Nuclear Material Control and Accountability. The FAQS are divided into the two groups "New" and "Library". We have 46 New FAQs and 138 in the library.
