DOE Annual Occupational Medicine
Workshop and Webinar (OMWW):
Registration, Directions, Lodging, and Access
REGISTRATION AND CONFERENCE SYSTEM
The 2014 DOE Occupational Medicine Workshop and Webinar will be held March 17-18 in Room 4A-104 of the DOE Forrestal Building in Washington, DC. Registration for the 2014 DOE Occupational Medicine Workshop and Webinar is closed. Please contact Michael Ardaiz, MD MPH CPH at (202) 586-8758 if you have questions. The deadline for registration will be January 17, 2014 in order to comply with conference system requirements. Upon completing the registration, you will immediately receive a confirmatory email. An additional confirmatory email will be sent to registrants shortly after January 17th (once all registrations have been tabulated) that will provide a specific link and passcode for both a practice Webinar and the actual OMWW. The WebEx platform should be accessible to personnel both on- and off-site if their computers meet the system requirements provided through the registration webpage. For additional information regarding WebEx please contact Ms. Teresa Peacher at email@example.com or 301-903-1546. Foreign Nationals MUST contact Dr. Michael Ardaiz at firstname.lastname@example.org directly in order to register.
To be entered into the new and mandatory DOE-wide Conference System, please work within your organization, possibly your management or site-specific Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) to identify a point-of-contact who will be able to search by the conference title (i.e., Occupational Medicine Workshop & Webinar) and then update the number of your organization’s employees who will be attending and resulting costs incurred. The 2014 OMWW will be entered into the Conference System in the near future. Please note that this system is also accessible to personnel here in the Office of Health, Safety, and Security (HSS) who will verify that registrants have been entered into the Conference System in order to ensure that, as Hosts of the OMWW, the conference has not exceeded its estimated costs or violated any of the associated reporting requirements to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) consistent with Executive Order 13589.
To obtain OMWW presentation materials in advance, a weblink will be provided giving access to presentations and associated references for preview, printing, etc. In the interest of environmental conservation, hardcopies of the materials will not be provided at the venue. You may elect to print copies of what presentationsyou wish before or after the Workshop. These materials will ultimately be preserved on a new DOE webpage as were those following the 2014 OMWW.
The OMWW will be located at the Forrestal Building within DOE Headquarters:
Forrestal Building, Room 4A-104
1000 Independence Ave. SW,
Washington, D.C. 20585
The Forrestal Building is readily accessible from multiple airports, including the Reagan National Airport (http://www.metwashairports.com/reagan/reagan.htm) and Dulles International Airport (http://www.mwaa.com/dulles/dulles.htm). Taxi fare is approximately $50 to the downtown Washington area. Reagan National Airport is also accessible on the Metro. The Smithsonian Metro station (Independence Avenue access) on the blue and orange lines and the L’Enfant Plaza Metro station on the yellow/green and blue/orange lines are both convenient to the Forrestal building (http://www.wmata.com/rail/docs/colormap_lettersize.pdf).
The line color for each train is prominently displayed on its front, side, and interior. To identify the correct train to take for any line, Metro riders should note the “last stop” sign displayed on the front of the train as it enters the station, which discloses the route of the train. The support columns on each platform list the remaining stops for the train headed in that direction. There one will find the intended station and the last stop for the route taken.
Parking is available in commercial lots near 12th Street and Independence Avenue, close to the DOE parking entrance. The cost is approximately $40 for all-day parking. Parking in the Forrestal Building garage is no longer generally available.
Lodging at the highly-regarded Mandarin Oriental Hotel has graciously been made available as a block of rooms spanning the conference (i.e., nights of 3/16-18) at the government rate (i.e., per diem) of $224.00 per night. The hotel is located just 0.5 miles from the Forrestal Building. It is also just steps from the National Mall, the Smithsonian Museums and nearby monuments, and minutes from corporate offices and government agencies. A map and directions are available on the website noted below. The account to be referenced during the reservation process is the “U.S. Department of Energy.” Reservations are assured through March 4, 2014, but be advised – we have only secured 25 rooms, so don’t delay.
