In January 2012, the DOE Wind and Water Power Program completed a programmatic and functional realignment to more effectively leverage the program's broad capabilities and increase the program's operational efficiency. According to the new Wind and Water Power Program Manager Jose Zayas, the realignment is helping to clearly define the roles and responsibilities of program staff, improve the program's research and development portfolio oversight, and provide strategic direction for future program activities.

Jose Zayas became Wind and Water Power Program Manager at DOE Headquarters in Washington, D.C. in September 2011. Prior to moving to Washington, Jose was the senior manager of the Renewable Energy Technologies group at DOE's Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, New Mexico. With more than 13 years of experience in renewable technologies, Jose looks forward to focusing the program's efforts on the advancement of a variety of land-based and offshore wind and water power technologies. As the national leader in wind and water power currently managing more than 500 research and development projects, the Wind and Water Power Program will continue to collaborate with private industry, federal agencies, local communities, and research and development consortia.
