Project Name: Florida Alliance for Accelerating Solar and Storage Technology Readiness
Funding Opportunity: Solar Energy Evolution and Diffusion Studies 2 – State Energy Strategies (SEEDS2-SES)
SunShot Subprogram: Soft Costs
Location: Tallahassee, FL
SunShot Award Amount: $1,750,000
Awardee Cost Share: $437,500

This project conducts analysis and planning activities in Florida to increase solar deployment and maximize the benefits of solar, including combining solar with other distributed energy resources like energy storage and demand response. This project will lay the foundation to enable Florida municipal and cooperative utilities to reach 10% of solar in their electricity capacity in less than 10 years.

APPROACH

The project team will work with municipal and cooperative utilities to identify barriers to solar that are specific to Florida. The team will conduct a technical analyses to determine the value that increased deployment of solar and solar with other distributed energy resources, can provide for Florida municipal and cooperative electric utilities and their customers, as well as develop scenarios for how best to locate solar in their utility service areas.

INNOVATION

This project will provide technical assistance to Florida municipal utilities to incorporate study results into their system planning and programs. These strategies will enable these utilities to increase solar energy to over 10% of power capacity in less than 10 years, compared to the current projected total for all Florida utilities of 2.1%.
