Through the SEEDS program, seven projects are investigating strategies to accelerate the pace of change for solar energy technologies using cutting-edge analytical and computational tools, real-world market data, and pilot tests.

A new program sponsored by the Energy Department's SunShot Initiative supports seven research teams across the United States that are designing and testing novel strategies to transform the ways solar technologies are developed and introduced to energy markets.

Through the Solar Energy Evolution and Diffusion Studies (SEEDS) program, three "evolution" projects are focused on optimizing the R&D mix to maximize real-world cost declines for solar technologies.

Four "diffusion" project teams are combining big datasets, computational tools, and pilot experiments to revolutionize the interface between solar technologies and energy consumers.

The project teams met during the Big Data Projects on Solar Technology Evolution and Diffusion: Kickoff Meeting on July 15, 2013. This one-day meeting included presentations from each of the SEEDS teams on the motivation, background, objectives, and potential outcomes for each project.
